- 2019 Atlas SE W/Technology
I received a recall notice for my 2019 Atlas back in March of 2023. The recall is for a malfunction in the "Passenger Occupant Detection System" (PODS) which sometimes does not detect a passenger in the front seat therefor making the airbag inoperable in some instances. We're going on a year now and a "repair is not yet available". I went to my local Volkswagen dealer yesterday, and the service manager said they do have a fix for the problem, but the parts are being used for the assembly of new vehicles. He said it's most likely a supply chain issue, but he's not sure. Is there a reasonable amount of time that the NHTSA gives manufacturers to rectify a recall?? It just seems that 8 months is a little unreasonable and they could have made the parts available while they were re-tooling for the 2024 models.
